Actress Parineeti Chopra, who is making her digital debut with a film titled ‘The Girl on the Train’, has hoped that OTT platforms wouldn’t lose its fun after the amendment of censorship. She added saying that she wanted to change her image of a mainstream film actor and that’s the reason she decided to be a part of the upcoming mystery-thriller film.

Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Prakash Javadekar in a joint press conference on Thursday announced rules and guidelines for social media and over-the-top (OTT) platforms in India.

Prasad welcomed the role of social media platforms in empowering ordinary Indians to voice their concerns. However, he warned that such platforms must not be used to share content that comprises “civilized norms” to impinge on “individuals’ rights dignity” and privacy citing a few examples of online abuse.

In the press conference, Prasad said that social media websites and apps will need to take down explicit, objectionable unlawful content on such platforms within 24 hours of a complaint being filed.

Sharing her views on censorship on OTT platforms in India, Parineeti said, “We always say that OTT platforms give a lot of freedom to actors and filmmakers in terms of gutsy writing or performances but cinema has its own restrictions. There are reasons for that. Cinema halls are there for community viewing experience whereas; on OTT platforms we can watch content as per our own choice. I just hope that OTT platforms wouldn’t lose their fun after the amendment of censorship.”

Talking about ‘The Girl on the Train’ and her mysterious and intense character in it, Parineeti said, “I feel the kind of films I have been doing and the kind of offers I was getting, I wanted to break that. I wanted to do something different through which I can surprise the audience and they should say that they haven’t seen something like this earlier from my end. I am actually glad and thankful that the makers of this film considered me for this film because usually, you get similar kinds of offers based on your past performances and films.”

She added, “I think we as actors are really hungry to do varied kinds of roles but you can’t do it till the time you don’t get the right opportunity. I am really excited about the film and I have kept my fingers crossed because the film will release within a few days. I am really waiting to see what the audiences have to say after its release.”

‘The Girl on the Train’ is written and directed by Ribhu Dasgupta and produced by Reliance Entertainment. It will release on February 26, 2021, on Netflix. It features Parineeti Chopra, Aditi Rao Hydari, Kirti Kulhari, Avinash Tiwary, and Tota Roy Chowdhury in key roles.

Apart from ‘The Girl on the Train’, Parineeti Chopra will next be seen in ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal’s biopic named ‘Saina’ which is helmed by Amol Gupte. She will also feature in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film ‘Animal’ along with Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. Parineeti’s upcoming film ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’ will release on 19th March 2021.
