American pop star Katy Perry who is on her second visit to India, has said that music is the secret language that connects people irrespective any location, religion and language barriers.

Katy Perry was interacting with the media ahead of OnePlus music festival along with Jacqueline Fernandez on Tuesday in Mumbai.

Talking about her second visit in India, Katy said, “I am very happy to be here. I have created a little bit of a special show. I am not really touring right now and I am doing very few shows but I decided that this show will be one of the most important shows for my year because the fact that I always wanted to perform in Mumbai for my Indian fans so, it checks all the boxes.”

Katy added that music is the secret language that connects us all, she said, “I feel music is the universal language. I mean everywhere you go, no matter the language you speak, you can all unite singing the same song and it’s the same feeling. Maybe, you don’t speak the same language but if you know the same song, it like you can grab the hands and you can dance. If there are a bunch of strangers in the room and they all are moving together in an age where we feel so disconnected and we think we are connected through social media. But when we come together as a community for a music concert, I feel that’s where you feel the magic again. I think music is that kind of secret language that connects us all.”

On performing in India for the first time, Perry said, “It is difficult sometimes to bring a big production over here. That’s why most people don’t add places on their tours because the production is hard to bring, you’ve to change everything.”

She added, “As music is changing and as we are digesting music in a different way, we kind of put out a song or a video every few months selfishly and I think that’s what artist love. They don’t necessarily want their songs to get lost in their album. Superfans know whole of the album but not everyone does and sometimes, they only know the singles and since streaming is such a powerful tool and its different format than when I started in 2008, we are kind of slowly adapting and going with the flow and putting things like little appetizers because that’s how people are injecting music these days. I am having so much fun because it gives me a chance to highlight every song of mine.”

Katy Perry last visited India for her show at the opening of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League.

Katy said that she is looking forward to meeting, and possibly collaborating with some people from Bollywood.

“I am totally excited to immerse myself in the culture, this week in Mumbai. You’re going to catch me on these streets. I am going to a fun party, going to meet some Bollywood people, hear some incredible bands. It’s been a long time since I’ve been here. When I was here for the IPL, I was just in-and-out, so I didn’t get to immerse myself but this time it’s all about immersing and educating myself.”

She added, “I am excited to meet anyone interesting, has a great perspective, care, kindness and empathy for the world and wants to do compassionate artistic thing. That’s the kind of people I want to hang out with. I’m sure Jacqueline is definitely going to take me shopping and eating.”

Katy Perry is going to perform live for the first time at Mumbai’s DY Patil stadium on 16th November.
