Netflix India on Tuesday launched the trailer of filmmaker Chaitanya Tamhane’s upcoming Marathi drama film ‘The Disciple’ on social media on Tuesday. The film stars Aditya Modak, Arun Dravid, Sumitra Bhave, Deepika Bhide Bhagwat and Kiran Yadnyopavit in key roles.
Sharing the trailer of ‘The Disciple’ on their official Instagram handle, Netflix India wrote, “Chaitanya Tamhane AND Alfonso Cuarón? ‘The Disciple’ is the tale of an Indian classical vocalist, Sharad Nerulkar (Amit Modak), searching for the traditional absolute in a contemporary city that never stops hustling. The film was awarded the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize (FIPRESCI, short for Federation Internationale de la Presse Cinematographique) and the Best Screenplay award at the 77th Venice International Film Festival. It was also screened at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was named a winner of the Amplify Voices Award. The film has also been nominated at the Film Independent Spirit Awards under the Best International Feature category.
Chaitanya Tamhane made his directorial debut with courtroom drama film ‘Court’ which won Best Film Award at 62nd National Film Awards. It was also announced as India’s official submission for the 88th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Written and directed by Chaitanya Tamhane, ‘The Disciple’ is produced by actor and producer, Vivek Gomber and executive produced by Oscar-winner Alfonso Cuarón. It is set to release on Netflix on the 30th April, 2021.
