Padma Vibhushan For SP Balasubrahmanyam, I Am Elated Says Chiranjeevi

Superstar Chiranjeevi Konidela just took to his social media profile and expressed his joy that SP Balasubrahmanyam, is conferred the Padma Vibhushan posthumously.

The Padma Awards, the country’s highest civilian honours, recognising the accomplishments of distinguished individuals in various fields, have been announced. They are given in three categories based on the scale of the awardee’s achievement – the highest being Padma Vibhushan, followed by Padma Bhushan, and lastly, Padma Shri.

Singer-actor SP Balasubrahmanyam, who passed away last year following coronavirus complications, was conferred the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. The recognition came 10 years after the celebrated musician was awarded the Padma Bhushan.

Actor Chiranjeevi Konidela took to his Twitter profile and wrote, “Elated at the announcement of ‘Padma Vibhushan’ to my beloved brother SP Balu garu. Most deserving honor. Pained to see the suffix ‘posthumous’ in brackets. Wish he was here to personally accept it! #SPB”

In a career spanning over five decades, SPB won six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and 25 Nandi Awards. Balasubrahmanyam was revered by fans across age groups for his unparalleled contribution to Indian music. He held a Guinness World record for singing over 40,000 songs.
