Chef Abhiram Prabakar, who has worked with a Michelin-starred restaurant, 108 Copenhagen in Denmark, has launched his own café, the Madras Kitchen Studio, with a catchy tagline that reads ‘affordable gourmet’ in Alwarpet, Chennai.

Chef Abhiram Prabakar’s innovative new menu combines both European and American gourmet dishes. This cozy rooftop café has all their products organically sourced and some grown in their terrace garden. The Café has exactly thirteen items on the menu, following the simple logic ‘Less is More’. With the décor perfectly replicating a traditional simplicity in space, this gorgeous rooftop café presents the best affordable gourmet dishes in Chennai.

Speaking about the launch, Chef Abhiram Prabakar, Founder of Madras Kitchen Studio, said “The earliest memories that I have about myself are my passion, love and strongest desire to for each good, tasty and delicious food. After a certain point in time, I realized that with my limited financial resources, I could not eat gourmet food at 5-star hotels all the time. That’s when the idea of doing something about this germinated in my mind. So, I had to equip myself for that. I’ve kept the menu as minimal as possible but each of the dishes on the menu is a specialty. Some of the highlights are the mushroom pita pockets, veg burger and all the appetizers”.

The Café recommends the Fried Chicken Burger, which has a hint of gojuchang from a dash of Korean sauce and a generous heap of sunflower microgreens that are a fun change from that traditional lettuce leaf. We discover a scrumptious Chicken Wrap, cooked to perfection with special house sauce, shredded purple cabbage, pickled carrots and crispy fries wrapped in a roti.

For vegetarian lovers, they could opt for the Paneer 65 Wrap with coriander mayo, lacha onions and pickled cucumber to bring in that pop. Although we must add the Mushroom Pita Pockets which has Confit Mushrooms, Bell pepper salad, coriander, cheese jalapeno dressing and a touch of basil pesto.

The NG (New Gangster) Finger Chips for instance, are made with potatoes sourced from Mettupalayam which are “extra starchy”, that means they are dense and have low moisture, which is the golden ticket to perfectly crisp wedges.

Madras Kitchen Studio is an unskippable destination that offers a one-way ticket to ‘affordable gourmet’ food on all days from 4 PM till 10 PM at Alwarpet, Chennai.
