Artist Parvathi Nayar Unveils Dreamcatcher at Lady Andal School

The legacy of an Institution - The artist Ms. Parvathi Nayar has accurately captured the essence of the foundations of education provided at Lady Andal School in the form of "Dreamcatcher".

Nestled in the heart of the city, Lady Andal School, is a home away from home for students both present and the past. The newest unit of The Madras Seva Sadan, is steeped in history. Reinventing itself from the Lady Andal Venkatasubba Rao School which was formulated 37 years ago, it has strengthened the vision of the Founders by meeting the current global standards. The infrastructure of the school adds to the charm and welcome that is peculiar to The Madras Seva Sadan.

In the centre of School, stands a stunning “Dreamcatcher”, a towering 40-foot-high installation designed by acclaimed artist Parvathi Nayar which complements the new building designed by architect Chiraag Kapoor of CK Architects. This embodiment of the vision of Lady Andal School is set for a grand launch event which is scheduled for February 9th at 5:30 p.m. in the School campus.

The artist Ms. Parvathi Nayar has accurately captured the essence of the foundations of education provided at Lady Andal School in the form of “Dreamcatcher”. Crafted from stainless steel, acrylic, wood, and metal fixtures, this monumental piece reflects the aspirations of students and educators of the Institution. Inspired by the protective talismans of North American Indians, the installation embodies the ethos of Lady Andal School, fostering curiosity and nurturing aspirations.

Having met with the Leadership Team and understanding the history of the Institution which started in 1928, Parvathi Nayar, set to consolidate, weaving with care and intention the School’s commitment to nurture the dreams of every stake holder within its all-encompassing embrace. The visionary artist behind “Dreamcatcher,” shares her insights into the installation’s significance, “Dreams are the seeds of our future, and education is the soil in which they thrive. ‘Dreamcatcher’ represents the symbiotic relationship between knowledge and imagination, inviting students to dream big and reach for the stars.”

Lady Andal School’s holistic approach to learning means laying the foundation and building on that. Creating a sheltered space for students and educators, Chiraag Kapoor, founder of CK Architects, expresses his pride in contributing to Lady Andal School’s architectural legacy. The School building is a reflection of the Institution’s values and commitment to education. Mr. Kapoor praises the role of Parvathi’s “Dreamcatcher” within it as a collaborative journey guided by a shared commitment to excellence. “We aimed to create not just a structure, but an experience that resonates with the school’s ethos, and inspires generations to come.”

Under the all gazing Banyan Tree that has watched the transition of the Institution through the decades, the unveiling ceremony will be graced by esteemed dignitaries and celebrities from the industry. Renowned classical dancer Ms. Priyadarshini Govind, former director of Kalakshetra, will serve as the guest of honour, adding her illustrious presence to the occasion. Mrs. Krithika Kumar Quintal, Hon., General Secretary of The Madras Seva Sadan and Mrs. Tamara Ann Coelho, Head of School, Lady Andal School express their collective delight, “As we unveil ‘Dreamcatcher,’ we celebrate not just the beauty of art and architecture, but the enduring spirit of education that defines our institution.”

Guests will have the opportunity to explore the intricacies of “Dreamcatcher” as Parvathi Nayar guides them through its mesmerizing design over four floors. Bridging the different levels of “Dreamcatcher” just like the programmes offered in the School, from the Primary Years to the Middle Years. This will be followed by a session with Kunal Daswani, an acclaimed photographer who has captured moments of curiosity and the sheer joy of learning within the folds of the School. Guests will then have the opportunity to peruse works by young artists from Lady Andal School, and a silent auction held in support of the Madras Seva Sadan, underscoring the Institution’s commitment to social responsibility.

The evening will also feature a sumptuous high tea by Chef Divya Pesala founder of Italiono restaurant in Chennai, a culinary maestro celebrated for her expertise and innovation. Additionally, attendees will be treated to the unveiling of Parvathi’s latest masterpiece, an artwork based on the iconic film titled, “(M)Other India,” further enriching the cultural tapestry of the event.
